Installing PEX tubing over a suspended subfloor can be nearly as simple as it is in embedded in a concrete slab, if the additional height of a lightweight concrete or gypcrete topping pour is accounted for. This can range in thickness from about 1.5" up to 2.5" or more. In a retrofit application where it is not be feasible to increase the height of the floor this much, take a look at our RHT Floor Panel System, which will only add ¾" to the existing subfloor.
The first step in a staple down application is to create a storey pole as shown in the following video.
Once you've created your storey pole, mark your tubing pattern on the subfloor, and install the tubing with the quick and efficient Peter Mangone RB Clip Gun, which can either be purchased or rented from the BlueRidge Company.
Once your tubing is installed and pressure tested, the lightweight concrete topping can be poured over the PEX.
